Our Bariatric Program
For patients, taking that step to have major surgery for obesity is for most, full of apprehension and trepidation. Our team is there to take you through this journey with the mission of ensuring safety and minimal complications related to the surgery. Preparation phase for surgery usually takes 4 – 8 weeks, for the purpose of making sure major complications related to the surgery in the first month, is kept to and absolute minimum (<5% risk). Complications related to the surgery over a lifetime can also occur and to deal with these requires expertise of the experienced bariatric surgeon. For that reason, a team of surgeons is required, to deal with any potentially life-threatening complication.
We also understand that many patients, who develop unrelated surgical and medical illnesses, would prefer to be under the treatment of professionals in the centre, rather than go to other doctors who do not understand the surgery they had done. For that reason, this centre also has the expertise to deal with most other surgical and medical problems as well.
Bariatric procedures
The procedures performed in our centre include the Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and Laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch procedure. Every individual patient will be told what the pro’s and con’s of each procedure is, we as a team will recommend what we feel is best but ultimately the patient will make their own decision.
